Our Thoughts Aren’t Our Enemy
Thoughts are just thoughts they arise like a puff of smoke then disappear into nothingness
I spent many years of my life wrestling with my thoughts, sometimes they felt like a beast within taunting me!
I resisted the negative ones they can make you feel like a horrible person and I tried to hang on to only the good ones.
Have you ever wondered why by resisting fear it persists?
I discovered over time that when we resist (exert force in opposition) to a thought or feeling we are actually holding onto it (we need to let go) not react to them whether good or bad (be neutral)
Repelling that part of ourselves this may create obsessive behaviour leading to a personality disorder if unchecked, you can read some examples in Dr Sallee McLarens book: Dont Panic
Merriam Webster definition: “Neurosis- a mental and emotional disorder that affects only part of the personality, is accompanied by a less distorted perception of reality than in a psychosis.”
Alot of people can still function normally within society having these disorders, they just do what they can do to cope maybe by obsessing over certain things to feel in control, or turning to substance abuse to escape reality.
In conclusion: by wrestling with your thoughts and rejecting parts of yourself this may alter your state and perception of reality making you become a little neurotic.
Have compassion for yourself
We need to be the observer of our thoughts let them come and go without judgement then we will find peace
